Commute Solutions

April 8th, 2010

Through Commute Solutions’ services, the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) helps people successfully navigate and use the local transportation system to access the things they want and need. Commute Solutions expands people’s travel choices by assisting them to successfully use various travel modes and by demonstrating the benefits and convenience of using sustainable transportation.  Commute Solutions helps people become part of the solution by making small changes to their daily travel habits that not only save them money and reduce stress, but that also support community values such as conservation, environmental protection and reducing traffic.

Commute Solutions’ commute experts provide people with the nuts and bolts of how to get around:  from how to read a bus schedule, to help finding a carpool partner, to finding the shortest bike route from home to work. A web-based carpool partner matching service connects people who want to share a ride to work or school providing instant ride matchlists around the clock.  Employers can get help designing employee commute programs that address their unique business needs and that have bottom line benefits such as reducing the need for parking, lowering payroll taxes and enhancing productivity.  Support for bicycling includes subsidies to install secure bike parking at businesses and workplaces and free 4-color maps of county bikeways.

Established in 1979, Commute Solutions has a long history of enhancing convenience and access for people no matter their preferred method of travel while conserving valuable resources, improving the environment and working to reduce congestion on local roads and highways.

Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission

April 2nd, 2010

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is responsible for regional transportation planning, policy and funding decisions for all travel modes. The RTC works to make our transportation system convenient, reliable, safe and efficient, while promoting long-term sustainability and a full range of travel choices.

From safety projects on Highways 17 and 152, to motorist and pedestrian improvements on Mission Street; from enhancement programs for bicyclists, to support of public transit; from upgrading Highway 1 to move more people, to acquiring new transportation facilities such as the rail corridor; from help finding a carpool partner to call boxes and roving tow trucks quickly removing highway incidents, the RTC is working proactively to ensure that transportation needs are addressed in our community.

Working collaboratively, the RTC secures much needed funding to maintain the existing transportation network as well as prepare for the access needs of the next generation.  Working with local stakeholders to plan for the future ensures that the RTC keeps residents moving wherever they want to go and however they choose to get there.
