Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is responsible for regional transportation planning, policy and funding decisions for all travel modes. The RTC works to make our transportation system convenient, reliable, safe and efficient, while promoting long-term sustainability and a full range of travel choices.

From safety projects on Highways 17 and 152, to motorist and pedestrian improvements on Mission Street; from enhancement programs for bicyclists, to support of public transit; from upgrading Highway 1 to move more people, to acquiring new transportation facilities such as the rail corridor; from help finding a carpool partner to call boxes and roving tow trucks quickly removing highway incidents, the RTC is working proactively to ensure that transportation needs are addressed in our community.

Working collaboratively, the RTC secures much needed funding to maintain the existing transportation network as well as prepare for the access needs of the next generation.  Working with local stakeholders to plan for the future ensures that the RTC keeps residents moving wherever they want to go and however they choose to get there.

Ecology Action

Santa Cruz is fortunate to have the perfect weather, resources, and support services for choosing sustainable transportation to get to work. With our bus service, bike routes, and carpooling opportunities Santa Cruz is a great place to use sustainable transportation. Ecology Action’s Transportation Membership Services is an easy and inexpensive way for employers to encourage sustainable commuting options for their employees.

Ecology Action’s Transportation Membership Services:

  • Emergency Ride Home: Free cab ride home when you have an emergency during regular work hours, and rode the bus, bicycled, carpooled, vanpooled, or walked to work that day.
  • 0% Interest Bicycle Loan: Borrow up to $750 interest-free for one year to purchase a bicycle and related equipment.
  • Discount METRO Passes: 20% off the regular cost of a monthly bus pass.

These services are offered at a great bargain for employers. A business of 10 people could have their entire business signed up for a year at the cost of only $50! The purpose of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce is to promote economic vitality and prosperity in the Santa Cruz area.

We value a healthy and productive economic community. As a business organization we are responsible for ensuring the communities economic resource are preserved and well utilized. We believe in the operation of a competitive market place and, in general, oppose efforts to control supply and demand of goods and services.

We value a high quality of life and expect our community to be welcoming to residents and visitors alike. We expect our streets to be safe, our parks to be inviting, our schools to provide quality education, and our natural resources to be sensitively utilized for the public good.

We value fairness and efficiency in community decision making. We believe the business community must play an active role in public decision making. The Chamber will provide business people the means to act collectively, influencing decisions of economic significance in our community.
